For Cyrus Bivens, the 4-H journey began at the age of five as a LaRue County 4-H Cloverbud Member, with his earliest memory involving pumpkin decorating. This was just the start of a path filled with friendships and opportunities that have shaped Cyrus today.

Throughout his time in 4-H, countless people have helped him along the way, inspiring continued involvement. Whether through the State Teen Council or the poultry project, these connections have been invaluable. A pivotal moment for Cyrus was the introduction to the 4-H Country Ham Project at age nine, which led to participation in demonstrations, speeches, and even speaking at the Kentucky State Fair. Years of giving speeches and demonstrations have honed his communication abilities. Public speaking is one of Cyrus’s strongest skills developed through 4-H.
Madison Wilmoth, a past 4-H State Officer, was one of Cyrus’s first mentors in 4-H. Her dedication to demonstrations and speeches in the county inspired his exploration of various 4-H activities. She encouraged attendance at area- and state-level events like Leadership Boot Camp and the Teen Conference, broadening his horizons and deepening his involvement in 4-H.
The third “H” in the 4-H pledge stands for “hands for larger service,” which resonates deeply with Cyrus. Giving back to his community has instilled a sense of pride. Participation in various 4-H community projects has ranged from distributing food to those in need to spreading mulch at a garden for the elderly. Cyrus’s commitment to community service is inspired by his father, who was actively involved in the Kentucky 4-H Foundation. Following in his footsteps, Cyrus aims to give back to new 4-H members and help them experience the same growth and opportunities.

The opportunities provided by 4-H have been instrumental in Cyrus’s personal growth. While involvement in several other organizations and attendance at numerous leadership conferences have occurred, he states that much of his success is owed to the foundation 4-H has provided him. The journey with 4-H has been transformative for Cyrus, and he looks forward to continuing to give back and inspire future generations.
